Boomers and Beyond at the Beach...in Delaware. by Active Adults Realty

Archive for the ‘Arts & Entertainment’ Category:

This year Bill and I were responsible for lining up the floats, the Marching Bands, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and getting the Classic Car with Active Adults Delaware logoparade off on time! Linda Chick, REALTOR® on the Active Adults Delaware Team, and her husband Jack Flood made their first appearance in the Lewes Christmas Parade in Jack’s classic Chevy. They were amazed at how big the parade is for a town the size of Lewes!

We’d love to hear from you about your Christmas Parade and favorite things to do for the Holidays.

Is Fall my favorite time of year because I’m an October baby? Or, is it the weather, still warm during the day but crisp and cool at night. So many of my favorite things to do take place this month – my calendar is filled with:

Lewes Historical SocietySaturday mornings – Historic Lewes Farmers Market (voted BEST in  Delaware 2011) – the last month of Saturday morning Farmers Markets at the Lewes Historical Society Complex (LHS) – October 1st at Sheilds Elementary School.

October 1st – Lewes Historical Society Craft Faire at the Lewes Historical Society Complex (LHS) – this show features some fantastic artists and artisans. What will I find this year?

October 1st – Lewes in Bloom Fall Festival Plant Sale in town, Boast the Coast Maritime Festival presented by the Chamber of Commerce and so much more all weekend long.

October 15th – Coastal Concerts presents Israeli Chamber Project. What an unusual, eclectic schedule for this coming year of classical music in Lewes! And you wondered what we did here in the off-season?

Just a few ideas to entice you to come visit Lewes in the Autumn.

The 21st Annual Lewes Garden Tour will be held this Saturday, June 18, 2011, from 10 am to 5 pm, and the weather forecast is fantastic! The tour, sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, will be held rain or shine, but it is so much nicer when the sun is shining and Saturday should be sunny and in the 80s.

Lewes Chamber of Commerce

Tickets are available at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, 120 Kings Highway, and other local businesses.  For credit card orders or for more information, call 302-645-8073 or www.leweschamber.com.

This year there will be 8 private gardens on the tour throughout town. Most are in walking distance but there is also free trolley service to shuttle you from garden to garden.

Don’t miss the Public Herb Garden next door to the Visitor Center in the fisher-Martin House, 120 Kings Highway, next to the Zwaanendael Museum.

Look for me from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Garden #6 where I will be one of the many volunteer docents this year. I am hoping to get around to see the other gardens before I go on duty. I’ll be bringing my camera with me so look for lots of pictures and maybe a video next week.

Following the Garden Tour, enjoy the week long 13th Annual Chautauqua Tent Show with free events at Zwaanendael Park, the Lewes Historical Society complex and in Stango Park by the Lewes Public Library. For a complete list of activities, CLICK HERE!

FOOD, INC.  sponsored by
The Lewes Historic Farmers Market & Rehoboth Farmers Market
Saturday, May15, 2010 – Reception at 5:00 p.m.; Movie begins at 6:00 p.m.

In FOOD, INC. filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health.

Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield’s Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms’ Joel Salatin, FOOD, INC. reveals surprising and often shocking truths about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

A complimentary reception featuring light, organic refreshments is included and a cash bar is available.
For tickets to the movie at The Milton Theatre

TICKETS:  General Admission – $12.00; Seniors over 65 and students 18 and under – $10.00
